HOLD THE DATE – 16TH JUNE 2012 - 12.30-17.00
Do you know that the average gamer is 37 years old? That 55% of gamers play games on their phones or mobile devices?
What about how you get the blue and white verified tick status on Twitter?
How would you respond to online social media being described as “word of mouth on steroids”?
If you are (very) curious about gaming or digital media, have ideas and want to work in a strategic, planning or business role there are two industry-led programmes at Birmingham City University designed for you.
MA/MSc Future Media
Consider Future Media as more than your first year in a job at a digital communication agency. The course will provide you with real-worldexperience working on multimedia projects around brand or product promotion, developing mobile content or devising television campaigns; you’ll eat, sleep and breathe digital strategy.
OR
Gamer Camp: Biz (MSc Video Game Enterprise and Production)
Consider Gamer Camp: Biz as the year you start your video games business. The course will give you specialist skills training, mentoring and support from leading game developers, artists, producers and business owners. As well a working to develop a batch of successful game entrepreneurs the course is also suitable for those looking to land a job as an Associate Producer or Project Manager, placements for these roles are available as part of the course.
When you have 'checked-in' to our exciting FREE workshop you will have the opportunity to hear from two of the UK’s leading experts in digital marketing and gaming as well as meeting our dynamic course team.
The Experts
Guy Wilday – Ever played Colin McRae Rally or Sega Rally? This is the man behind the studios who developed those multi million global game franchises. Recognised as an influential, well-connected games consultant, Guy is one of the founders of Gamer Camp and has been involved in the development of Gamer Camp, Nano, Pro and now Biz. Keep track of him @guywilday
Lisa Smith – top brain in everything digital; providing strategy and market insights for global advertising and marketing agencies. Keep track of her @DigitalLisaa
We also like to give you experience of the programmes (so you know what you are letting yourself in for) so you will have the opportunity to respond to a brief and get instant feedback!
1230-1300 Registration and refreshments
1300-1320 Two short presentations on the Gamer Camp: Biz & Future Media post graduate courses by Oliver Williams & Sara Middleton & two Pecha Kucha style presentations on; The Games Business - how its changing and what it means for you and Gamification - making the world more fun by playing games. By Guy Wilday & Lisa Smith
1400-1530 Then onto the most exciting part of the day The Games Marketing Workshop. This practical exercise will give you a taster of the courses. We don’t want to tell you too much in advance as that might ruin the surprise but just as a tease we can tell you this…....
You will be given an iPad game to play and analyse, you will then be tasked with coming up with ideas for a sequel to this game. Once you've defined the key features of the game you’ll have to agree how the game is monetised, distributed and crucially how the game is marketed to its target market. So expect to play, argue, agree, be inspired, have an opinion, meet new people, have a fresh experience and have some fun too. There will be support and guidance from course team members from the Future Media and Gamer Camp: Biz course teams; Mark Brill, Guy Wilday, Oliver Williams and Sara Middleton.
1530-1600 Pitch your ideas and plans & get feedback
1600-1700 Time to discuss your career with a member of Gamer Camp &/or Future Media course team
We are looking forward to meeting you.
